This time, a special guest Mário Bittencourt, with the topic: Leveraging BPMN for Seamless Team Collaboration in Software Development.
I’m very happy that Mário Bittencourt agreed to share his knowledge and experience using BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) in real projects. He wrote about his talk:
One of the challenges of software development is to capture and understand requirements. In this webinar I will introduce BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) and propose a framework on how to use it as the common language between Business, Product and Engineering teams involved.
Mário is a Principal Software Architect at SSENSE.com. 30 years of experience in software development with a passion for the purposeful use of technology.
And that was clearly visible through in the webinar. He showed us:
why focusing on the process and not mixing it straight with technical concepts is a basis for proper modelling
how to run BPMN modelling practically. I loved the storytelling of it, impressive!
how to start with BPMN and use it in different phases of the project,
his heuristics on how to do it well and badly.
Plus, we also discussed in the Q&A part:
is BPMN really as heavy as it is pictured, and should we be scared by the length of the official guide?
how to pragmatically select BPMN bits not to be overwhelmed,
how to join it with tools like EventStorming, Event Modeling, C4, etc.
how to keep the process documentation up to date,
how to transition to the technical design,
diagrams as a code, and code from diagrams,
and many more!
I sincerely think that it was a great introduction to BPMN. It’s worth knowing this tool and trying it on your own to see if it can help you and your projection. By that, you’re building a better modelling toolbox.
